Fire Code Updates session with the TO Fire Department

The new Fire Code that came into effect January 1st of this year incorporates over 2500 hundred changes from the previous edition. Most of these changes are the result of Harmonization, which is the aligning of provincial codes with the national model codes. The Ontario Building and Fire Codes were always based on the national model codes, however with Harmonization, unnecessary differences and inconsistencies in the codes across the country are minimized. This edition of the Fire Code also includes several unique changes that reflect Ontario’s specific needs. many of these unique changes are a result of past incidents, while others reflect emerging technologies, as well as trends in construction and property use. This presentation is intended to provide an overview of the new Fire Code as it pertains to primarily residential occupancies, focusing on what requires immediate attention, and other directly or indirectly relevant code provisions.
