This Hallowe’en season, join condo experts Bill Thompson, Greg Fealy and Dean McCabe as they share real-life “condo horror stories” filled with legal, engineering and property management nightmares—and the lessons learned to help you avoid similar scares. From practical tips to cautionary tales, you’ll leave better prepared for whatever surprises may lurk in your community.

Joel Berkovitz - Partner, Shibley Righton

Joel’s practice as a condominium lawyer includes all aspects of condominium law, with a focus on drafting and negotiating contracts for condominium corporations, advising Boards, corporate governance, borrowing, and compliance matters. Joel is a former condominium director, and this experience informs the practical advice which he provides to his clients.

Greg Fealy - P. Eng., Associate, Senior Building Science Engineer at Stantec Consulting Ltd.

Greg Fealy is a Building Science Engineer with experience in the assessment, design, and repair of existing buildings. He has managed hundreds of projects, helping property managers and condo boards extend building lifespans, plan capital improvements, and resolve complex building issues. Greg’s experience and practical advice have helped guide his clients through a few “Condo Horror Stories”.

Bill Thompson - Court-appointed Administrator

Bill has been active in condominium management since 1985, retiring in 2022 after more than 30 years as President and Owner of a property management company. For over 35 years, he has volunteered with ACMO and CCI, serving as President of both CCI Toronto and CCI National, and contributing to boards, committees, and industry initiatives. He helped develop the first RCM code of ethics and led the creation of the ACMO2000 designation, which his firm held for 21 years.

Bill has spoken at events across Canada and internationally, publishing numerous articles on condominium topics. For the past 18 years, he has served as a court-appointed Administrator, guiding condominiums through political and financial challenges with practical, empathetic leadership that restores stability and value for owners.

Dean McCabe - President and Founder of Meritus Group Management

With over 28 years’ experience in property management, Dean is responsible for developing a culture of dedication, integrity and education at The Meritus Group and for seeing that culture realized in the way management services are offered. Dean represented The Meritus Group and the entire condominium management profession on the Board of Directors of ACMO for over 15 years.  In addition, Dean has served as a court appointed administrator for 6 condominiums facing financial, governance and security issues over the past 5 years.
